Rebecca’s Story

Rebecca has complex autism and attended our Day Service in Heaton Moor. Following a period of ill health Rebecca was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes requiring her to have insulin injections. This restricted her ability to continue to attend the Day Service due to the regime needed to manage her condition. Her support was reviewed and amended and staff from the Day Service began supporting Rebecca from her home accessing her local community to take part in activities rather than attending the building based service.

This support included overnight respite for Mum and we have been able to work with the Specialist Diabetic Nurse in ensuring that Rebecca’s support team have been trained to support Rebecca with her insulin injection. This has meant that her day is less restricted as she no longer needs to wait for the District Nurse team to support her with her medication and her Mum can enjoy a well deserved break away from home.
