The Senior Leadership Team have continued to meet regularly to review the information being shared by the Government and the impact of this on our services. Clearly, the information shared on Monday night by Boris Johnson has further amended our service offer and how we are delivering our services.
We have also been liaising with other local Providers and the Local Authority about how we can share resources to ensure that essential services can continue to be delivered, in the best interests of our service users and staff.
We will continue to amend our approach as required as the current situation continues to develop. We know that a lot of our carers have already made the decision to not use services at this time, which we can understand and appreciate given the level of need we support. Here is an update as to our current service provision:
Skills Group service was suspended from 4pm yesterday (24.03.20) due to a number of factors including the decisions made re school closures, the increased importance of social distancing and the increased restrictions being placed on the country since Monday night. We had already seen falling numbers attending each day as you yourselves made decisions to keep the people you care for at home. We will reopen the service as soon as it’s possible to do so and we will keep you informed of when this is likely to be.
We have also suspended all the leisure groups that operate across the week including evenings and weekends – these are group activities and given the guidance on Monday night re social gatherings, it was appropriate to do this.
The service remains open but we are focusing our support on those people living at home with parents and carers and in particular, where there are essential keyworkers in the family. We are also liaising with the local authority about the people we support and planning together where support is being prioritised and allocating our staff resources accordingly. We are keeping the service under constant review.
Both Cheddle Lodge and Brecon Close remain closed to non-essential staff and personnel.
In line with the current Government guidance re essential working, we are continuously reviewing the level of staff required at our office base and ensuring as many of the staff based there are able to work from home. Because numbers in the office are so low, and we have increased free office space, we are able to put in to place and enforce the required social distancing measures. Again, we will keep the situation under constant review and reduce numbers to as low as possible to protect our staff.
At this moment in time, we do not have anyone with a confirmed case of Coronavirus within the organisation. We have seen an increase in the number of staff who are self-isolating as a precautionary measure, which was to be expected.
We would still ask that any service user presenting with the symptoms or who are confirmed as COVID-19 positive, that you let us know as soon as possible, even if they haven’t been in one of our services in the last 14 days, so we can discuss this and follow Public Health England and Local Authority advice.
As already referenced, senior managers are meeting daily and convening after each of the Governments daily briefings, in order to consider further actions for Supportability, which will be cascaded down to operational managers and staff if further amendments and changes are required to current service delivery.
