Candice Scambler, Registered Manager at Cheddle Lodge, our residential care home in Cheadle, has been shortlisted for the Rising Star Award at the 2024 Greater Manchester Health and Care Champion Awards.
This year’s Greater Manchester Health and Care Champion Awards are due to take place in July and were first held in 2018. They are organised by NHS Greater Manchester and provide an opportunity to show recognition and gratitude to those working hard to improve the health and wellbeing of the people in our communities.
With over 500 nominations received for 13 different categories, including Leadership, Innovation and Community Champion, we were delighted when we were informed that Candice was shortlisted for the prestigious award.
Cheddle Lodge is a purpose built home located close to Cheadle town centre. It can accommodate up to 13 individuals aged 18 plus with a range of complex disabilities. Candice started working as a Support Worker initially, and since then she has progressed and undertaken a variety of roles such as a Team Leader, Assistant Manager and more recently qualified and taken up the position of Registered Manager.
Candice and her team have modernised the building, refurbished the bedrooms and have transformed the sunroom into a sensory room. She has also attended lots of events in the community and completed a range of qualifications as well as introducing care planning software.
She believes that Cheddle Lodge should be a home just like any other, and that the residents should feel as comfortable as possible in what is their home. She certainly has made a mark on the home and made a big difference to the lives of the residents who live there.
Our Deputy CEO Mary Stanley said:
“Supportability and the senior management team are extremely proud that Candice has been shortlisted for the Rising Star award for Greater Manchester Health and Care Champion Awards.
Candice works tirelessly with the staff team in Cheddle Lodge to support the residents to live active and fulfilled lives and to promote people’s independence. She continuously strives to look at ways that she and her team can improve the living environment, opportunities available and quality of offer to those we support.
She is a passionate and caring person who goes above and beyond for the people in her care, as well as working hard to support her own progression and development by doing extra qualifications, training and attending networking events. She is always striving to learn more and apply what she has learnt into her role and her personal development as well as being a supportive team player with her peers and those that she manages.”
