11th of November 2025

We are happy to invite our community to the upcoming exhibition celebration event, Celebrating Supportability at 70, which will take place on November the 11th between 3pm and 5pm at Stockroom, Stockport.
This event is part of our wider project, Supportability at 70, which aims to highlight the incredible heritage the charity holds and show the wider public what Supportability is all about.
We hope the exhibition will bring together a diverse range of organisations, practitioners, and community members to share thoughts, celebrate achievements, and spark new ideas and conversations. We would love to see you there!
The venue is fully accessible and if you cannot attend the celebration event, then the exhibition will be available to view from November the 5th till December the 7th at Stockroom, Stockport.

We had a special visitor on Friday 25th October! Jane Kenny, who volunteered for us for over a decade starting in the early 90’s, visited Granville House as part of the ‘Celebrating Supportability at 70’ project.
Jane had quite a career while with Supportability. She started as a volunteer, then became a member of the board, all the while working on a newsletter called CHAT magazine. Below are some photos we found of Jane in the archive.
When we asked Jane what her proudest moment was while working with us, she reminded us that she won Volunteer of the Year which made her very proud and we completely agree!
Jane has always been a fierce advocate for disability, which was evidenced through CHAT magazine where she would write about accessibility standards and campaign for better resources.
Jane has continued with her writing and has just published her second book called ‘Welcome To My World Revisited’ where she tells her life story.
If you would like to purchase Jane’s most recent book, it is £10 and all proceeds will be donated to her local church, St Joseph’s.
Thank you for visiting, Jane!

Did you know that the founders of Supportability purchased Granville house on Parsonage Road, Heaton Moor, for £2,200 in 1954 thanks to local community fundraising?
And we still operate out of Granville House 70 years later.
This is just one tiny part of the history we have uncovered in the last four weeks and there is still so much more to go! We have a lot of information about our heritage but there are still some gaps in our archive and we can’t fill them without your help.
This past Friday I gave a small speech to the participants of Supportability’s annual Golf Day, a fundraising event that has been running for over 30 years now. The purpose of my speech was to launch the ‘community callout campaign’ that aims to encourage insight and participation from our community.
Do you have a Supportability story to share?
Please contact me at elli.tozer@supportability.org.uk, I would love to hear your story and tell you more about this exciting project.
No amount of detail is too small.
